Visual analysis

From images whether they are a poster or a still from a movie how you interpret it as an advert is very important, because a still or picture can tell you a lot about a movie and can help your understanding of it.

-From this picture we can see that this person has another side to him.
-We can say that the second person inside him is controlling him as he is centred in the middle of the poster.
-We can see perhaps that the main character has a darker side to him than the boy in the middle because his picture is in black and white whereas the boys is in colour.
-We can see that maybe the man in the shot may not be real compared to the boy, this is because the boy is in colour whereas the man is in black, it's as though he has a real 'character'.

-From this shot of Gangster number 1 we can see that they are thugs.
-We see this because of the gun that he is holding and how it is silenced, plus the suit he is wearing, means that aren't dirty they do things correctly.
-The suit as well tells us that the character in shot has alot of money because that is an expensive looking suit.

What media type would distribute our film?

Because this is just the beginning few minutes of our film, the best places for it to be distributed could be:

- TV, such as a short advert with a small fragment of our film in it to give the TV viewer a look at the mood that our film has. I would say the possible best part from our film to use would be the routine and the end, as it doesn't take up to much time and is a short look into our film.
Another type of media that would be good for advertising would be the internet, because it is worldwide the opening can be used to give fans a glimpse at the full movie, whilst also broadening our potential viewers.

Using software, technology and Hardware

From creating our film I learnt many things about using different forms of technology:

-When creating our storyboard i learnt how to use final cut express and editing and cutting clips together to make a flowing video of images that roughly represents the action that we have in our film.

- I learnt how to use the digital camera to take pictures of storyboard parts and also during the act of filming.

-I've learned how to use a filming camera and adjust it in order to create good shots that look really smooth and fit in well within thriller conventions to create suspenseful shots.

-I've learned how to use editing software on the computer to edit together clips and make them fit together well.

How our film appeals to people in teen-age years and older.

-We have certain ideas that link our film to people in their teens. With it's pop style music and edgy, almost horror-ish following of characters as seen in movies such as Scream. Because of the suspense we have in the movie, we can utilize this concept which is common in the horror genre whilst also sticking to the conventions of a thriller.
-This is how we can make it appealing to members of older audiences, because it still has links and ideas that are common in thrillers that have been made in the past, such as suspense, 'Who dunnit?', ect.
-Because we haven't used much graphic violence in our thriller we are able to show it to members of young teens , this helps us as it helps us widen our age group and can lower the age rating somewhat.

How does our film meet thriller conventions?

In our thriller we have added certain conventions that fit in with the thriller genre:
-For example we have many questions that are left to the audience hat is created by what is on screen. Because we don know why the killer is in the house and why he is targeting this man. This is common in thriller as it makes the viewer want to watch more.
-We have the villain in our film which is common in thrillers but we don't know who he is yet.
-We have a good setup that is based around levels of suspense that is set up by how the villain 'creeps' around unseen to the protagonist, but is seen by the viewers.
-We have the classic, murder/conflict beginning that is common in thriller movies as in films such as Zodiac, A history of violence ect.

Extended film analysis: Kill list

Kill list has many conventions of the thriller genre. Using suspense, shock and a strange questioning vibe to the entire film. The reason being is that the two main characters are questionable and we aren't sure whether they are good or bad characters. With some interesting twists and strange, almost 'whiney' music the film creates a chilling, suspense filled atmosphere.

Here is a small clip from the film.

The IDENT

At the beginning of our thriller we have created an ident that has our own logo and production company name with it. This helps make the production seem more realistic and also adds a little more to the films experience, here is a screen shot of the creation of the ident:
As you can see the ident has our production company name in it and also shows evidence of the animation that we have with it of a smokey background with a shining logo.

Shot lengths and details

During the beginning of our film the speed of editing increases as the sequence repeats, but when it changes on the final time, the shots change. For example, when the main character is in his bed the second shot of him lasts a number of seconds, unlike the first time. And as he picks up the alarm clock the camera zooms into his face in order to emphasise to the viewer that this time something is different and that something is wrong. This slight change really switches the mood of the film from being a kind of cheery opening into something more sinister. Add that to shots such as the one where the villain walks past him in the mirror and it puts the viewer in suspense as they know someone is there but the main character doesn't.

Graphic Matches

In our thriller we have a graphic match right at the end. It comes when the main character (Laimonas) is hit from behind by the mysterious villain (Conor) , as he hits the wall, the camera blurs and refocuses to him in another room but in the same position. Then the camera spins and it shows us he is actually lying down on the floor.

Pre filming storyboard

This is the link to our storyboard animatic that we made prior to filming, you will see that it is slightly different to the finished product.

Filming successes

We were able to film our movie to the plan without any real technical problems. This made it easier for us to edit bits of the plan to create better shots that create a better atmosphere for the viewer. By using certain views and shots we were able to make the opening sequence very realistic and good looking.

Costume

For the main character we had two different attires for him. The first being for the morning when he has woken up and is in his pyjamas, the second is him in his suit as he leaves his house for him to go to work.

The villain wore all black with a black leather mask that made him seem creepier.
